There was an air of excitement as everyone awaited the arrival of Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister of Education and Second Minister of Defence to receive a $3 million cheque donation from The Ngee Ann Kongsi on behalf of the school, and to officially open the new Eden School Building at Bukit Batok.

Walk into Pathlight School and the first thing you will see is a special gift shop, stocked with colourful items such as T-shirts, posters, notebooks, painted canvases and embroidered bags.
“Yes We Can!” was the theme of the 1st inaugural Pathlight Musical. The musical depicted an inspiring life journey of a Pathlighter with the ups and downs faced by him. Eden School, being a sister school, was also invited to join in the musical.
Eden School moved from its Yuan Ching Road site to its new premises in June 2010. This beautiful purpose-built facility is made possible by funding from the Ministry of Education and donations to the school’s building fund.
We received our membership approval to participate in the Special Olympic events in early September and we decided to field 10 students for exposure at the Track and Field Meet scheduled for 25 September.
After weeks of careful planning, 7 buses left Eden School on its way to Marina Barage for a morning of fun and activities. 117 students, together with their caregivers and teachers enjoyed the bus ride from Bukit Batok to Marina Barrage.
20 families from Eden School were invited by Rotary Club of Suntec City to an outing to Jurong Bird Park as part of a Children’s Day Celebration initiative. The families were assigned to 3 colour groups and came dressed in the assigned colour
The students were entertained to a puppet show entitled ‘Runaway Dog’ during Morning Assembly. 40 students then took a leisurely stroll to Princess Elizabeth Primary School where they were given a VIP welcome by the P5 students and staff
It was a very special occasion for celebration when Eden School Board Chairman Mr Eddie Koh received a cheque for $377,966.85 from Ms Loh Wai Mui, Chairman of the A Very Special Walk Fund Raising Committee.
"Pathlight Gives Back" to the autism community, on a fun-filled, glamorous Saturday evening. We have raised a total amount of $412,098.50, which exceeded our fundraising target. A HUGE THANK YOU to all!
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS WAITING TO ENTER INTO UNIVERSITIES IN YEAR 2011!
Youth for Autism (YFA) is a 5 months program specially created for students waiting to enter university. This program promotes awareness of Autism and also gives students a chance to interact and work with the staff and students in ARC(S), Pathlight School and/or Eden school.
4 high-spirited Pathlighters won the National Youth Business Challenge 2010 by selling recycled drink cartons! Apart from the overall title, the team also bagged a Gold Award and a Top Most Earth Friendly Enterprise Award. They rose to the challenge and faced the competition from 39 other teams from schools such as Raffles Institution and Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road).
As we prepare for the BIG MOVE to our new Bukit Batok campus, we also revisit many of the exciting programmes and activities that have taken place. We have added more event coverage for the year 2009 and the first half of 2010 and invite you to tour our events archives.
Eden School had a very special visitor during Morning Assembly on 21 May 2010. Dr Richard O’Brien, Ambassador of Ireland to the Republic of Singapore came by Eden School to present a donation of $250k from The Singapore-Ireland Fund for the set up of the Eden School Bake Room at the new Bukit Batok premises.

Mr Peter Ng, parent of a Pathlight student, participates annually in the Kapas-Marang 2010 International Swimathon. He decided to use the platform this year to raise funds for Eden School’s poor and needy students.
SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS IN MAINSTREAM SCHOOLS MIXING BRINGS BENEFITS BUT MAY NOT SUIT ALL STUDENTS, THE STRAITS TIMES
In the recent years, mainstream schools have been catering more and more to students with differing learning needs. Educators recognize the benefits of immersing a special needs students in a mainstream school, however also know that this may not be the most suitable way for all students. Ms Loy Sheau Mei, Vice-Principal of Pathlight School, shares some of the factors that parents should consider.
The school was decked out in lanterns, colourful decorations and the art work of the students... Thanks to the initiative of our partner school Jurongville Secondary, our teachers could sit back, relax and enjoy the exciting programme with their students.

The Ministry of Education’s ‘satellite partnership’ programme is benefitting students from special schools by letting them participate in activities in mainstream schools. Some students with special learning needs are also attending certain classes together with students from mainstream schools.

LANCET FORMALLY RETRACTS 1998 PAPER LINKING VACCINE AND AUTISM
PARIS (AFP) - Medical journal The Lancet Tuesday withdrew a 1998 study linking autism with inoculation against three childhood illnesses, a paper that caused an uproar and an enduring backlash against vaccination.

PM Lee lauded the teachers of Pathlight, "They are putting in a great deal of passion and commitment, helping these kids with learning disabilities, not just to master the curriculum but how to work together in a class, how to attend assembly, and how to be part of social life.
Victor Ong now heads the design studio at Pathlight, left behind a promising career in advertising. "I needed to find meaning and significance in my work," explains Ong, "so I left advertising, deciding that I need to find a new space."
