Novena Square Investment Ltd invited 19 students and their families to enjoyed a 'snow-filled' early Christmas experience at a constructed ice rink at the atrium of Novena Square. There was fishing, photo taking and slides down an icy slope. The group also went for lunch at Professor Brawn Cafe & Long John Silver Restaurant.
JOB PLACEMENT FOR THE AUTISM COMMUNITY: WORK IN PROGRESS
Educators and job coaches from ARC's upcoming Job Centre, Eden School, Eden Centre for Adults and Pathlight School work together to seek jobs suitable for the autism community. Here they attentively listen to the manager of a major food company. The journey to prepare the students n young adults is paved with challenges especially to prepare them well so they can be respected and valued, not pitied. But it's a road worth taking.

DEEPAVALI CELEBRATIONS
The Festival of Lights was celebrated at Eden School with dance, music and food literally. The morning began with 2 lively dance items from Aerocratz, a quiz and a fashion show by our very own students and teachers. At recess, students tasted traditional Indian food and even had a hand in making thosai! They tried out musical instruments too.
The Minister for Education, Mr Heng Swee Keat and Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ms Sim Ann were at Pathlight School for a visit and dialogue session with our school leaders and educators.
In an interview after a tour of our premises, the Education Minister announced that MOE will be looking to boost capacity and quality of education in the special needs sector. He further added that
Pathlight will be gradually boosting its capacity to 900 by end 2013.
For the last six years, Member of Parliament Denise Phua has championed special needs education so that those like her son, who has autism, will not get left behind.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spoke about the Special Needs community in his 2011 National Day Rally speech. He praised Pathlight School for its good work and mentioned the National Day Observance Ceremony for Ang Mo Kio GRC that was held at Pathlight.
Following the Rally speech, families with special needs children greatly welcomed the Prime Minister's plans for the SPED community. They expressed their concerns over how the higher cost of special education impacted on their other children, the lack of available vacancies at special schools and how their children could not cope in mainstream schools.

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD OF INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM THROUGH THEIR ART WORKS
In commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day, Pathlight School has launched an art exhibition titled 'Art for Autism' displaying the works of 8 talented student artists, with the aim of allowing the public to understand more about the thoughts and talents of individuals with autism.

"Diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome - a mild form of autism - from the age of nine, Ray Lim Wensong, now 12, has always had difficulties interacting with people. ... In the booklet, Ray shares his thoughts on everything under the sun..."
