Research has shown that, beside's mothers' involvement children do better in school when fathers actively participate in their schooling.
The Dads for Life is a community-owned movement, driven by the Fathers Action Network, a workgroup of the National Family Council. It was officially launched on 19 November 2009.
The Fathers@School Programme seeks to provide the platform for more active and deliberate engagement of fathers in the school environment, and to promote father and child bonding through involvement in school-planned activities.
With an initial funding support from the MCYS Dads for Life Movement, Eden School was given official approval to embark on this programme on 5 July 2011. The activities proposed by the school include a Breakfast Talk on the introduction to the Fatthers@School Programme, participation in A Very Special Walk @ Pathlight School, 2 school camps, a Duck Tour and a visit to a drama performance.
A breakfast talk was conducted on 13 July and 11 fathers responded to the invitation. Mr Adrian Lim, Outreach Manager from Programmes Branch (Dads for Life Secretariat), MCYS, shared with those present on the programme, and testimonies by fathers in other schools who run the programme. It was a modest and small start, and we look forward to more active involvement during the course of the year.
