17th October 2014 saw the launch of the much-anticipated inaugural Eden School Sports Day at Millennia Institute running track. The primary objective was to encourage active participation among students in track and field skills. Ms Denise Phua, Eden School Supvervisor, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Parents and volunteers from Symrise Asia Pacific Pte Ltd were also present to lend their support.
A total of 86 students participated in four track (25m, 50m, 100m and 4x25m relay) and two field (long jump and javelin) events. Prior to the Sports Day, students trained hard with their teachers in their respective events during their Physical Education lessons.
There was also an exciting Parent, Staff and Symrise volunteers 8X50 metres relay that lent a refreshing finale to a very successful Sports Day.
While selected students were busy competing at Millennia Institute, a flurry of activities was taking place back in the school. The Eden School Sports Carnival was also taking place, specially planned for the more concrete students who were unable to cope with the open air demands of an outdoor Sports Day.
Students were treated to a range of carnival games and activities, which included inflatable castles, basketball shooting and bowling.
And what are carnival games without carnival food and souvenirs? Students had the chance to savour popcorn and cotton candy at the snack booth set up in the Eden Café. They also took home prizes and photos taken at the photo booth as keepsakes of the event.
Corporate volunteers from General Electric (GE), Catlin Group and Borneo Motors also came down to man the various games and food stations at the Carnival. Their efforts were very much appreciated, as it allowed the teachers to focus on the students. The students enjoyed themselves very much, and some had difficulty disengaging from the fun activities.
This year's Sports Day and Carnival was definitely meaningful and made enjoyable for our Edenites. It would not have been possible without the creative efforts put in by the Organising Committee, who put in their heart and sweat to make Eden's first Sports Day and Carnival a resounding success.
Well done to all!
