On 28 May 2015, 28 Eden School students and teachers caught the play entitled “The Gingerbread Man” at the Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel. Prior to the trip, the students were shown videos and songs related to the classic story.
The students were excited as they boarded the bus. At the Hall, the students found their respective seats, sat down and waited patiently for the show to start.
The play was about an old couple who wanted to make a gingerbread man. However, the little old man did not follow instructions well and a disaster ensued. Produced by ‘I Theatre’, the 50 minute play was filled with upbeat and catchy songs, vibrant props and zany characters. The show was interspersed with interactive segments such as when the Little Old Woman went into the audience and asked random students if they were her little Gingerbread Man. Questions thrown out to the audience by the characters were also met with enthusiastic responses. Students cried out “No!” when the Little Old Man asked if he should replace milk with water in the recipe and groaned when he did not follow instructions.
At the end of the play, the students eagerly walked up the stage and took photos with the cast. After which, the students ate their snacks before boarding the bus back to Eden School. Back in class, the students eagerly drew and decorated their own little Gingerbread Man. While things ended badly for the Gingerbread Man in the play, it was a sweet treat for our students!
