Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, was celebrated during Assembly today. Starting with a video introducing how Deepavali came about, students and teachers swayed to the beat of a modern and a folk dance performed by 3 artistes from Aerocratz Pte Ltd. Students learnt about the activities that Indian families carry out on Deepavali. This was followed by a simple quiz and a fashion show featuring our very own students and staff who came dressed smartly in traditional wear.
The staff also prepared Indian fare for the students to savour during recess – thosai, apom jala, chicken curry, vadai, chicken sambal – besides desserts and sweets such as muruku. What a spread! The students were also encouraged to try their hand at making a thosai.
A musical instrument corner was set up during recess and students played on the violin, flute, cymbals and drums.Ms Sharon from Henna & Facial Artists volunteered her time to patiently draw intricate henna designs on the hands of staff and students.
It was a day of experiential learning about Deepavali, and the students and staff unanimously agreed that they had a good time. Kudos to the Committee for the hard work put in.
