Eden School celebrated Chinese New Year on Friday, 20th January 2012. The celebration was held at the school multi-purpose hall over 3 separate sessions for the various tracks. The celebration was an hour long for the Jubilee, Columbus and Blake group, while the Emerson students enjoyed a shorter version.
The celebration began with a Chinese dance performance by students of Jurongville Secondary School. A slide show followed, featuring Chinese New Year traditions and items. The students enjoyed themselves, especially during the sing-along session, as they danced and clapped to the tunes of popular Chinese New Year songs. Every student then greeted their teachers with two mandarin oranges in the traditional auspicious manner and taught to say "Gong Xi Fa Cai" to signify good luck and prosperity in the New Year.
As part of the celebration, a competition was held among the classes to decorate the classrooms to the theme of Chinese New Year, with display emphasis on the windows and corridor. Prizes were given to the best 2 decorated classes of each track.
The celebration ended on a high note in the form of a "Surprise Item" prepared specially for our ex-Principal, Mrs Jenny Lai, in appreciation for her contribution to Eden School. The celebration was a success and I would like to thank the Organizing Committee and those who have, in one way or another, help to make the event a memorable one for the students and staff alike.
